About me
I am passionate about learning and have been helping children and adults learn for over twenty years.
In the corporate environment, I have been a trainer and instructional designer. In each role, I aimed to create meaningful and impactful training to help learners achieve company goals by creating training that would help them feel confident in the tasks they are completing.
My Skills
ANALYSIS
As an instructional designer, I understand the importance of identifying goals, looking at performance gaps, reviewing the organization's culture, assessing the current content, and all the rest of the important work involved in preparing to create an effective training.
E-LEARNING TOOLS
At GEICO, I developed over 125 training modules in Rise, Storyline, Camtasia, Canva, PowerPoint, Word, Snagit, and other authoring programs. Every training released received at least a 4.0 or higher rating out of 5.
ADULT LEARNING THEORY
I am well-versed in learning theories, including behaviorism, cognitivism, constructivism, and connectivism. I have studied these theories as an instructional designer, trainer, and teacher.
WRITING AND COMMUNICATION
I have excellent written and verbal communication skills, which are necessary for developing clear and concise instructional content and collaborating with subject matter experts and other team members.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT
I worked with multiple SMEs and stakeholders to ensure all of my projects were completed on time at a 100% rate. I used the ADDIE and SAM instructional design models effectively to accomplish this.
EMPATHY AND CULTURAL SENSITIVITY
To build exciting and successful learning experiences, I understand the target audience's needs, motivations, and learning styles. To ensure inclusivity and accessibility, I am also mindful of cultural differences when designing content.
Work Experience
CORPORATE INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGNER
GEICO / Oct 2020 - Aug 2023
As an instructional designer for the GEICO Auto Service Department, I was privileged to oversee and coordinate various aspects of our training initiatives. This involved collaborating closely with stakeholders and subject matter experts from different locations and departments to assess our team's learning needs comprehensively. Once identified, I worked hand in hand with these experts to craft effective educational solutions, implement training programs, and carefully monitor and measure their outcomes.
Unfortunately, in August of 2023, the learning department was cut by approximately 90%, and I was laid off.
REGIONAL INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGNER/TRAINER/SUPERVISOR
GEICO / Aug 2011 - Oct 2020
As an Instructional Designer and Trainer at GEICO, I designed and managed local training for the Buffalo GEICO Auto Service Department. I also trained and supervised over 140 associates in Buffalo in our corporate and regional training material to prepare them for handling service phone calls and chats.
